Julie Fowlis, brought up on North Uist in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides has been a proud standard bearer for Gaelic music and culture over the course of her solo career. One of Scottish Folk music’s shining stars has won numerous awards including BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Singer of the Year’. Julie gained worldwide acclaim through her involvement in Disney Pixar’s ‘Brave’ in which she sang “Touch the Sky” and “Into the Open Air”.
Also performing at the Gaelic Music Concert are the Armagh Pipers, originally founded in 1966 this group of traditional musicians just celebrated 40 years of musical activity in the Armagh area. Dedicated to the development of traditional music, the Club has achieved worldwide acclaim, particularly for its innovative music education programme.
Young, emerging artist James Mackenzie a graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and a member of award winning Scottish Folk Band Breabach gives us a taste of his new album joined tonight by Alisdair White (fiddle), Matheu Watson (guitar) and Hamish Napier (piano).
