The Pipe Band Club
Based in Sydney, The Pipeband Club Australia, current Grade 1 Australian & South Pacific Champions brings together top players from all around Australia, and stretches its membership to New Zealand, Europe and the United Kingdom. During 2009, the playing group competed at its fifth consecutive World Pipe Band Championships on Glasgow Green in Scotland.
Strong leadership, a clear vision and financial stability attracted players from around the country since its official inception in early 2009. In 2005, the majority of the playing group marched onto Glasgow Green in Grade 2 as The Band Club –Sydney Australia. Placing 11th at the World Championships, the foundations were laid for a strong future. Competing locally, and across the Tasman in New Zealand, in 2006 the band won the Grade 2 Victorian Championships, and Grade 2 Australian Championships. In 2007 & 2008, the band placed 3rd in Grade 2 at the World Pipe Band Championships, and won the lead-up competitions at North Berwick & Bridge of Allen.
In early 2008, the band was rewarded with promotion to the highest grade, and competed at the New Zealand National Championships, before qualifying for the Grade 1 final at the World Pipe Band Championships in its first year in Grade 1. Stepping onto the competition field in Scotland as a Grade 1 band was not only the realisation of a long-held dream for the management of the band, but a significant personal milestone for so many of its players. At North Berwick and Perth, the lead-up contests to the ‘Worlds’, the band claimed both the Medley and MSR prizes. Returning to Australia, the band confirmed its status as the premier pipe band in the country by winning the 2008 Australian and South Pacific Championships in Sydney.
2009 was a year of challenges and change, and saw the formation of The Pipeband Club – Australia. The firm commitment and passion of the playing group has seen the band continually excel, and progress in innovation, musicality and management stability. Evolving as an organisation, the band has purchased entirely new uniforms, including new kilts in the MacDonald of Clanranald tartan, and new Andante drums. This continual effort lead to the band winning the 2010 Australian Pipe Band Championships for the 2nd consecutive occasion.
The Band has embarked on a new program entitled “Continuous Improvement”. This essentially involves competing locally on a more regular basis in conjunction with our new Development Band. The Development Band is an exciting and innovative opportunity for all players to learn, grow, mentor and develop new players into The Pipeband Club Australia organisation
