Oran Mor Pipe Band
Events
Founded in 1992, the Oran Mor Pipe Band is one of four Grade 1 pipe bands in the United States and one of the top 20 Grade 1 bands in the world. Based in Albany, New York, the band boasts a roster of nearly 30 pipers and drummers and an entirely voluntary support staff. Oran Mor competes at numerous Scottish Games throughout the United States and Canada. Every August, the band travels to Glasgow to compete in the World Pipe Band Chmapionships. Achievements/Highlights
Oran Mor placed 4th at the World Pipe Band Championships in Grade 2 in 2008. Since the, they have had strong performances each year in the Grade 1 qualifier, and will return again this year.
In 2007, Oran Mor won the Grade 2 event at Bridge of Allan games.
Individual band member achievements
Pipe Major Andrew Douglas is an acclaimed soloist, having taken several prizes in the Silver Medal at Oban and Inverness. As a band player, he spent siz years with Simon Fraser University Pipe Band and actively wrote and arranged music with the band.
Drum Sergeant Eric MacNeill is a long-time student of J. Reid Maxwell, and is a prominent solo competitor in North America. He has made the semi-final of the World Drumming Solo Championships on several occasions.
