Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band

Formed in the 1882 as the Edinburgh City Police Pipers, the Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band is one of the oldest competing pipe bands in the world. The band was also the first Police pipe band to win the World Championships securing the first of eight wins at Dunoon in 1919, under Pipe Major Hugh Calder.
Another two World titles were secured in the 1950’s by Pipe Major Donald Shaw Ramsay. Under Pipe Major Iain McLeod the band was to enjoy the most successful period in its history, with two World titles in the early 1960’s and another three in the 1970’s.
Pipe Major Ian Duncan, who for many years led the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, has been in charge since September 2009. Ian was joined a year later by Leading Drummer Jacob Jorgensen, after he had spent 10 years with Jim Kilpatrick’s Shotts & Dykehead drum corps.The band has worn the Prince Charles Edward Stuart tartan since 1948 and holds the privileged position of being pipe band to The Royal Company of Archers, the official bodyguard to the Sovereign in Scotland.
